G1 Star Convoy Remodeled

As promised, the update begins. Honestly, the update should have begun with a Classics Thundercracker but like I mentioned before, the pics aren't prepared yet.

So what was the next project? A remodeled G1 Star Convoy from a Galaxy Force Megalo Convoy. This project has been on going for roughly a month plus, but only manage to get it uploaded here now since I didn't manage to pass it to my good pal Arya (the owner if you all might ask...). I purposely didn't take any of my own pics since the thought of only Arya could justify this fella.

Okay, a little brief on the makings. It started of with a base robot Megalo Convoy. This big boy was huge, and had the best articulation on a Transformer. So, after comparing it to the original G1 Star Convoy...it almost matched. What about the head? Well, I had an old G2 Laser Optimus Prime which was a really bad shape. Took the head and remodeled it a bit with a ball joint system. The V-fin on the forehead was made with Pla-plate and an some detailing parts for Gundam. The chest and shoulder cannons were taken from my busted 1/100 Gundam Leopard. And what happened next? Go on and have a look...

I'd like to say thanks to those who have been supporting me in my work. And just to inform, RK Designs is now a legit business. It's been registered and slowly working its way in the world ...Again, if it wasn't for loyal supporters (who have become my regular customers) there wouldn't even be an RK Designs.

Another thing I'd like to mention, a saddening news that a good friend of mine has taken leave of collecting Transformers. He informed me that he was quitting and planning to sell most of his collection. Why it disheartened me? Because this friend of mine was the one that was originally responsible for helping RK Designs to be where it is now. I hope that you won't totally leave Transformers collecting bro...maybe one day you'll get the mood again and join us again in the world of collecting. Again thanks Shah...for everything (that includes Alt Mirage, SolarStreak and the rest of the gifts you gave..heh...)

I bit you all adieu till the next update!

A Lot of Work Due In RK Designs Blog

Heya good people...it seems this blog o' mine has been rather slow in the update department. Before anything or any conclusions, don't worry to those who've been following RK Designs. Just lately I've been swamped with work (doing some part time work for now) and a lot of commissioned repaints as well. Not that I'm complaining...no...can't bite the hand that feeds right?

Theres some updates that I haven't done yet, which I know I need to post a.s.a.p...but its not gonna be now since I haven't prepared the photos yet...heh...this post here is just to inform those who have been loyally following this blog, that its not dead but just delayed.

But to those who wants to have a look at one of my works, you can check out the blog of a good friend of mine. A fellow Transformer fan and one helluva writer.

My work for him was a G1 lining design for his Alternator Meister (Autobot Jazz to those who are Transformally challenged...) and he ordered one of my Classics Dirge. So how was the outcome of the work for him? Check out his blog ya...he posted there. (Hey Eyeris, I'm pimpin' yer blog as well here, and thanks a bunch for the pimpin'!...hahahaha)

Classics Ramjet Re-Made to Dirge

Among all the original Decepticon Seekers, the Coneheads were not given much screen time. That I remember well. But, they were one mean looking jets to ever come into the world of Transformers and being Decepticons, they were badasses.

The Transformers Classics line came up with Ramjet as one of their new wave figures. And seeing Ramjet (clearly having a new mold for wings and head), fans were hoping to see the other two Seekers. Yes. They did come out with Dirge and Thrust, but they were BotCon exclusives. So for us average joes who live across the globe, getting one is definitely a no no.

Thats where RK Designs come in. I have been pondering awhile in doing a Dirge repaint based on the BotCon design. Then I thought to myself, 'If I were to repaint according to the BotCon exclusive, then there won't be any originality to it...' So I rummaged through some old comics and borrowed a Transformers Toys collection book and started playing with some ideas. Finally I decided to combine the original G1 look and added a little from the BotCon exclusive.

And here it is ladies and gentlemen...

Movie Megatron Make-Over

Hey all, as you all know the Transformer Movie is currently showing and is the hottest movie hitting the cinemas now. And as before, the merchandising will ensue from toys to whatever you can think of. But RK Designs won't be going that far, just doing another repaint for another customer.

Who is it this time? It's the Leader Class Megatron. As a personal opinion, the figure was colored badly by the manufacturers (this is an honest comment...) and I think, a Leader Class figure should have been given more work on the paintjob. Last few weeks, a friend showed me a link to a custom repaint of the Movie Megs. Members rooted for me to do a RK version, but I had to wait till someone sends in the fig.

Lucky for me, a toy shop (Toy Workers - link can be seen on the right panel) who has been a strong supporter of RK Designs and a good friend sent in the first Megs to be repainted. The scheme? Well, they asked me to try to follow closely to the link they gave in the forum, then I thought again...I don't remember RK Designs following someone else's design...So I opt for a different approach.

And here ladies and gentlemen...is the result..

p.s: I didn't have time to properly take the pictures of the figure at home since the owner needed it quite urgent, so I brought my digicam and did a photo session in his shop.

Leader Class Optimus Prime Just Went Bad

Here's the second exclusive repaint I did for Robotcon. A Nemesis version of the movie Optimus Prime. And better still, the Leader Class version. All I can say is that the leader class prime is an awesome toy. The technology shoved into its transformations system was superb and I for one am amazed at how they could come up with such a toy.

Anyways, I used my usual Nemesis scheme but added a few more details to it. For instance, the flame was replaced by lines. Why lines? Just to add a tad difference to the normal flames. Originally we were going to go with flames, but then it would be so identical to the normal prime (and not to mention time consuming..didn't have much time though).

After much work and less than two hours of sleep each day, he was done...finally.

Transformer Movie Ratchet Gone G1

Hi all, here I am again with another treat. As you all know that last few weeks Robotcon passed by. For that event, I was asked by the co-founder of Transmy.com to do an exclusive repaint on two Transformer Movie toys. Who were they? Well, the first one that went into the RK Designs workshop was Ratchet.

Most who don't know or already know, Ratchet was originally colored green. More to lime green or light green. (I have absolutely no idea why they made him that color...) So I suggested to do an original G1 version. (It was in fact for my own collection, but since its for a good cause..)

Here's good ol' Ratchet in his true Generation One colors...

Masterpiece Cobra Nemesis Prime

And here I am again with another Nemesis repaint scheme. I've been doing a lot of black repaints until a friend of mine said that don't I have any other color to repaint. Well, as I've said to others before, it all depends on my customers. If they want black, then I'll give them black. I am getting paid for it right? Heh...

Alritey then, now..what's the difference with this Masterpiece Optimus Prime? In general he was repainted to the normal RK Designs Nemesis Scheme, but there was an added extra touch to him. My customer/good friend wanted to add the Cobra emblem to his shoulder (you know, the baddies in the G.I. Joe series?). Furthermore, he gave me some extra weaponries (taken from the 1/60 Strike Gundam weapons set) and asked me to repaint to suit this particular Nemesis.

So with that task in hand. I proceeded. This fella was done way back, before my Solarstreak project but due to sum unforeseen circumstances, but I preferred the owner to take the pictures. And who else would give so much justification to this guy than Arya from TransMy (who is also the owner).

Now, on with the images...

The main bad bot himself:

Close ups. As you can see, I gave him a slight dirty look to the silver parts to make him have that wear and tear look.

Nemesis Matrix...

PS: As you can see the Cobra emblems looks a little badly done (to me that is...). It's the second one that I did. The first one which was a better version had an accident and it was...erm..melted..literally...hope I can do better next time, and keep those darn cats out of my work room!

Alternators Gone Wild

Well, Robotcon 2007 is finally over. The 3rd TransMy gathering was a bash and I manage to win myself an Optimash and a T-shirt. heh. Anyhoo, its been a while since I've updated RK Designs with some of my latest works.

Let's start with the ones done before the hectic life of Robotcon. As the title says, it's all about the Transformers toyline called the Alternators (US) or Binaltechs (Japan). I was given the monumental task of repainting one alternator and do a kitbash on a binaltech.

Who were those unlucky bots to go to my repaint workshop? An alternator Swindle and a binaltech Grimlock with Silverstreak head.

First up would be Swindle. His original color was yellowish brown. His color was based on his original G1 color. So what was my task? My customer wanted it to be made gold. Swindle was suppose to be a testbed for my next project which is going to be with the same customer who is now a good friend of mine. He wanted everything on Swindle pimped to bling bling status.

The verdict?

I present to you all, Bling Bling Swindle.

Now, the next project was a kitbash. I was given a Binaltech Grimlock body and a Silverstreak head. The color scheme would be something like G1 HotRod or G1 Rodimus. First thing that I had to do was, fix the head. Silverstreak's head didn't properly fit and easily came off. So, opened the head and fit in a small part for ball joints. Then I increased the size of the ball joint to make the fitting nice and tight. Once that was done, paint stripping was done and repainted it nicely.

And I present to you Solarstreak.

Robotcon 2007

Hey all!

There haven't been any updates lately since I've been busy with some projects and events. But there will be soon. As I'm typing this, I'm hanging out at my fav hangout place Toy Workers. So I can't update any new projects that I've worked for the past few weeks.

But, I do have some super duper news. I'm proud to inform everybody that's reading this that we will be having our very first Robotcon. What's a Robotcon you might ask? It stands for robot convention.

Enough typing and here are the details.

(Do click on the picture to view it bigger so you all can see the details...)

cheers!
